Hi and welcome. My name is Katie, and after 16 years climbing the Big 4 ladder, I decided to hit pause. I’d been pushing toward partnership, but when I looked around, I realized I was missing out on my own life. So here I am, stepping off the expected path to see what I’ve been missing and dive into a year I’m calling The Curious Break.
Why Now?
My 6-year old twin daughters were a big wake-up call. It was getting way too easy to choose deadlines over bedtime stories, client calls over family dinners, and business trips over family vacations. I didn’t leave my career to “just” be at home – I left to be present with my family and go after what lights me up. I want my girls to grow up seeing that it’s okay to pivot and strive for excellence chase something that feels right, even if it looks different.
What’s The Curious Break?
This blog is my playground for a year. It’s where I’m trying out new things, figuring out what I actually enjoy, and seeing where my skills might fit outside of the corporate mold. Here’s some of what you’ll see:
- Finding a Health Routine That Works – My history with fitness is… complicated. I’ve gone from borderline ED restrictive diets to treadmill half marathons to giving up entirely. Now, I’m working on finding a middle ground that feels good. Personal training? Check. Martial arts? Maybe. . Running? Slowly, but getting back at it.
- New Hobbies, New Skills – I’m getting back into food content creation – because yes, cooking and filming are actually fun for me. I’ve also tried pottery, thanks to a gentle nudge from a friend’s daughter, who figured I could use something low-stress and hands-on. Who knows what could be next?
- Intentional Living – For me, this is about slowing down and not rushing to the next thing. So you’ll find me trying out Thai massages, squeezing in more travel, and just learning to be in the moment. It’s a work in progress, but hey, that’s what this year is for.
- Exploring a New Direction – With 16 years of experience, I know I’ve got skills that can go beyond traditional accounting. I’m testing the waters in content creation (I even landed a licensing deal on an old video!), seeing if I can build a path that combines what I know with what I love.
What’s Next?
Honestly, I’m just following what feels interesting and letting this year unfold. The Curious Break is where I’m sharing it all – the good, the weird, and everything in between. If you’re here because you’re curious, or just wondering if you’re allowed to change your own script, welcome. I’m figuring it out as I go, and I’d love some company along the way.
